Access magazine covers

Access is science magazine released three times a year by NCSA. The focus of the magazine is on the science and engineering research of academic researchers and professors across the country that utilize NCSA's supercomputing resources. We always try to keep the focus squarely on the science and not just the fast computers. Therefore the cover almost always prominently features a visualization from one the articles in that issue. When I design the covers, I always work towards finding a balance between artistic expression and functional information graphics. Somce people consider the images a sort of scientifice artwork. Others view them as being totally separate from art. Each image has its own narrative and I think it ultimately boils down to how you define art and science.
